Central to the valley is a smallish well laid out town with all the usual facilities – schools, hospital, sports, supermarkets etc. – but not relying on tourism as is Torrevieja, Benidorm, Altea, Calpe and the coastal spots in general.
Many luxury villas surround the town, owned by people traveling into Alicante and it is also handy for the autopistas to Alicante, Madrid, Murcia, Valencia and is 30 Km to the beaches and coast.
There are several attractive villages and smaller towns nearby.

A golf course project is about to start and land prices will then be set to double within a few years while to date there are no urbanisations. 
As an example, 10,000 m² plots, which are usually level, are the norm with good soil for gardens and complete with a 3 bedroom villa, can currently be offered at £100,000 including Building Licence, Architect, Engineer and Quality Control Certification costs.

The out of town countryside environment is tranquil and Spanish; though a number of high quality villas/fincas have already been built and occupied by British owners, as well as other nationalities.

For a really pleasant holiday, or retirement in Spain, with sensible prices, this is hard to beat.  However it is probably more ideal for people who prefer countryside rather than a bustling built up area nearer to the coast.
